Moriarty Airport Resources: Tiedowns, Camping, Services

This is a short guide to staying at Moriarty Airport. In the photo above, areas where you can park an RV or van with access to electricity are marked in green. At the northwest corner of the photo (upper right) is a green circle, that’s the flagpole area just SE of the airport office with eight 20 amp outlets. There’s another space available just north of (behind) the office where you can plug into a 20 amp outlet on the office wall. The office itself has large restrooms with showers, and a kitchen sink. Car, tent, or RV camping in areas without electric is also OK. Fees are $10/night for electric and $3/night without, both include use of office facilities. This is administered by the airport manager, Bob Hudson, his number is 505 507-6332.
If you’d like a full power electric hookup for your RV there are three 30 amp and one 50 amp service on the back wall of the hangar on the east end of the field (green square near right side of photo). For these please contact Bob Carlton at 505 276-5945.
For the contest, we’ll be for the most part tying down in grass areas (bring anchors!). And yes, there actually is green grass in September, this photo is from December 2023. Tiedown locations are outlined in white. The Albuquerque Soaring Club hangar is the long building with “122.9” painted on the roof; the grass areas around there are easy to get in and out of. There is some additional space in the “block” to the east but the taxiways are bermed just a little higher here.
There is also limited ramp tiedown space available on the large paved ramp south of the office, the area that’s generally available is outlined in blue. Depending on transient airplane traffic, there’s usually room for at least 8-10 gliders here. Fee is $3/night to Bob Hudson.
Just FYI, there’s another paved tiedown area marked in red at the bottom of the photo. This is reserved for staging gliders before launch. We will be launching from the large ramp area rather than gridding gliders on the runway itself.
