The picture above is of the main intersection in Moriarty - US Route 66 and NM Hwy 41. We don't have many traffic lights in Moriarty, we're very proud of this one so I'll use it as a reference. The following are favorites here.
Restaurants -
La Hacienda: Turn North at the light, go over the freeway, it's on the left just past the Pilot. Good Hispanic food.
Nachos: South side of 66, one half mile west of the light. More good Mexican.
Chili Hills: North side of 66, 1.2 miles west of the light. The drive is the North turn at the intersection just West of the TA truck stop, if you miss it you're stuck entering the freeway. This place is a little more Anglo than most in Moriarty, but still Southwest style. Caution: Billy Hill eats here often. If you sit with him, he tells Dad jokes.
Fast Food -
KFC/Taco Bell (yes, in one store) and Arby's: Side by side, North side of 66, 1 mile west of the light.
Blake's: North side of 66, about 500 yards East of light. Classic NM fast food chain. Green chili cheeseburgers, good breakfast burritos until 11:00am.
A word about dining in New Mexico - most places have state flowers and state birds, here there is an official (seriously) state question: Red or Green? That means chilis. Unasked but acceptable answer: Christmas. If you're not sure about it, you can ask for chilis on the side and add to your taste. If you say "No chilis" that immediately marks you as at best untrustworthy, and probably a criminal or pervert.
Groceries -
Just one real store, Moriarty Foods. North side of 66, West end of town, set well back from street just across from TA truck stop. Fresh bakery, deli will make you a breakfast burrito until 10:00am.
Hardware -
Hart's Hardware, aka Hart's Aircraft Supply: North side of 66, 0.9 mile West of light.
