Tow Emergency (PTT) Options

This page presents landable areas in the event of a low-level rope break or other PTT event. The above image is an overview, more detail is shown below.
Options West of Runway when using 26

This photo shows the area to the west of 08-26. If the tow terminates at a low altitude, there is level ground off the end of 26, but be aware that there is a fence (marked in red) not too far out. If you can clear the fence there is open ground between it and the diagonal dirt road. Another option near the end of the runway, if you have enough altitude for a 90 degree turn, is the large field north of the 08 threshold. There is another fence on the south edge of this field, it runs along the dirt road that parallels the taxiway. If you are higher yet but still below turn-around height a good bet is the large field outlined in green. The small field outlined just to the east makes a good approach corridor with no trees or obstacles. The roads marked in white at the eastern ends of both fields have no power lines but do have standard wire fences along them. The large field was once cultivated and is more level and clear of obstacles than the usual pastures here.
If you elect to make a turn and land downwind on the runway, note that while roughly the east half of the runway has flush landing lights, the west half has post mounted lights. They’re frangible, but so is your wing.
Options East of Runway when using 08, Right (South) Side

When using runway 08, PTT options are more limited. Terrain straight ahead off the end of 08 is extremely rough and will probably total your glider. If you have altitude for a 90 degree turn, runway 17 is the obvious option. Otherwise the best bet is to turn 45 degrees and land to the right of the trench in the photo. This is uneven ground and sloping to the east, but you won't hit a gully or trees.
Options East of Runway when using 08, Left (North) Side

If you are higher but still below turn-around altitude, there is an open and unobstructed field past the end of 08 and to the left. Be aware of the powerlines along the south edge of this field.
