Traffic Procedures

Moriarty Traffic: 122.9 Moriarty AWOS: 118.05 Field Elevation: 6204' MSL
This photo is a diagram of our most typical traffic pattern, which is for runway 26. I know that you know what a pattern is, it just helps me point out a few things. In the southwest corner is a green circle, this is the location of a white columnar water tower. In the satellite photo you can just see the shadow, but from the air it’s very easy to pick out. This landmark is the standard IP for 26, used by both power and glider traffic. We usually fly a fairly high and wide pattern here, it helps us fit in with and be seen by power traffic. All patterns for 08-26 and 17-35 are left-hand.
The AWOS tower is located in the blue circle north of the captain’s bars near the east end of 26. This is a great aid, but it doesn't update as quickly as the windsock, which is in the orange circle south of 08-26 at ramp Bravo.
For non-contest flights: If using 08 or 26 you can roll off the runway at ramp Delta (the launch area). If using 17-35, note that the taxiway on the west side of the runway is only paved up to the mid-field ramp; south of there it is just dirt, and rough to tow a glider on. So landing on 17, we’ll usually stop mid-field and pull off on the ramp past the hold-short. For 35, landing long and pulling off at the north ramp is convenient.
For contest flights: The same process applies for using 08-26, but be aware that pilots may be landing behind you - if there's room, try to roll out past the hold-short. We will have ground crew to bring your tow-out gear and help you clear the ramp. For 17-35, the process gets a little more involved. If winds are clearly favoring the cross runway, we'll bring all the tow-out gear and ground crew out to the mid-field ramp. Whether using 17 or 35, roll out at that ramp. Crew will pull you up the ramp and put on your wing wheel and dolly. You will then pull your glider north on the taxiway far enough to make room for the gliders behind you. We'll shuttle you to your tow vehicle in the parking area so you can drive back and tow to your tie-down.
